A subscription is $100, so the service costs less than $10 per month.
Reports are published once each quarter. You can think of them as summer, fall, winter, and spring if that helps. Each quarter covers articles published in the previous three months.
No. In fact, the cost was deliberately kept low so students and non-profits can subscribe. As an educational professional publication, your subscription expense is fully tax-deductible in the USA and other nations.
Most of it is. Approximately 80 percent of the articles listed are completely free to read, and you can download PDF files to store on your computer, or print out. The other 20 percent are behind paywalls but accessible to their own subscribers or some university libraries via online access. For those paywall articles, others can read, print, or save the abstract (summary) of the article if you do not have direct access via a paid signin. You can also pay the journal 's download fee per article. In many cases, your local or regional library may have free access to an article.
EASR is a project of Hoofcare Publishing, which has been in business since 1985. EASR was formerly published as "RideSearch", from 2017 to 2022. It was expanded and reorganized in 2023, and the name was changed to reflect a wider scope and audience.
EASR uses a decision ladder for equine research. Articles or theses must be published within the three months covered in an issue, unless extenuating circumstances prevented publishers from releasing a manuscript during that period. Example: An article published in the printed version of a journal may not be available online for several months.
In general, research listed must be published in a peer-reviewed journal or posted by a university repository service. In some cases, so-called "gray" literature published for reference by government and NGO agencies like the USDA or National Academy of Sciences, may be provided, along with "white paper" documents from professional organizations like the AVMA, ASPCA, or BEVA. The inclusion or exclusion of gray literature is at the discretion of the editor and will be identified as "not peer-reviewed".

You can receive the reports on any computer, smartphone or tablet that is equipped with a browser and that is connected to the Internet. You must have a verifiable email address and Internet connection that will open the Google Drive document platform. For mobile use, the free Google Drive app improves readability and makes access quicker from your home screen. For new users, we recommend using a computer to learn your way around, but some users depend on their phones. The desktop version also offers more interactivity and a built-in clickable margin guide for quickly jumping between sections. Once you learn where everything is, you may be perfectly happy with the phone or tablet versions, which are also good for on-the-go access to research.
Yes. If you change your email address, please notify us so we can change the delivery address where your links are sent. Subscriptions are not transferable, otherwise. They are set up for one person's easy access, but if you change your address, you can take HoofSearch with you. However, you must notify us since we would otherwise not know that you are not receiving your issues.
Of course you can share what is listed in EASR, You cannot copy or reproduce the actual issue, however. Each subscription serves a single subscriber.
You can cancel your purchase within 7 days from the date of purchase and receive a refund. Any refund needs to be for reasons that prevent you from accessing your issues. However, we can help you resolve access problems. This policy is subject to change without notice.

Assuming that your email address is verifiable and your payment goes through, you will receive your first edition within five days of placing your order, if not sooner. If you do not receive your first issue within five days, please inquire. Make sure there are no typos in your email address or credit card details when you subscribe. You will be notified immediately if your first issue is undeliverable, and we can sort it out together. If you have multiple email addresses, please be sure to check for incoming mail in the address you provided to EASR, since the link to open the issue is sent out by email to that address.
Whenever a new report is published, you will receive an email. The email contains a link. You just click the link and the new issue will open in a new browser window or tab on your device. However, it will open any time on any device, as long as you are signed in to your email address, and past issues are stored online for you.
Please notify us anytime you see an error, such as a dead link or a duplicate listing. For errors such as a misspelling in an abstract excerpt, it cannot be changed, since that is what the publisher provided.
You can receive the reports on any computer, smartphone or tablet that is equipped with a browser and that is connected to the Internet. Browser type (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, etc.) does not matter. Computer or mobile type (Apple or PC, iPhone or Android, etc.) does not matter, either.
EASR is very aware of evolving or parallel terminology within the practice of EAS. While we try very hard to stay abreast of changes and recommendations, we also try to use clear topic names that will make it easier for you and others, particularly subscribers outside the USA who may struggle with English, to browse through the index and know what the topics mean.
Articles and theses listed in EASR, especially from countries other than the US, often use terminology that varies from recommended terminology in the USA. We do our best to index articles in the correct topic, but some journals are not always clear on the professional status of authors, such as OT or PT, psychologist or social work counselor.
Journal and book editors may also have terminology usage policies that EASR must respect.
EASR monitors more than 60 databases, journal publishers, and university or professional society repositories. Editor Fran Jurga works diligently to monitor new research, and communicates directly with journal editors, college faculties and librarians, organization staffs, and researchers themselves. EASR welcomes direct inquiries from authors and editors.
It is important to mention that EASR is not compiled by artificial intelligence (AI). Some databases may use AI, but EASR is compiled by a human.
Research articles posted in EASR are published in peer-reviewed journals. Peer-review is a requirement, but we also will list review articles and editorials, if they are published in a peer-reviewed journal. EASR also provides links to university theses that are at the graduate or doctorate level, and some juried conference proceedings, such as the Equine Science Society or International Society for Equitation Science.
To support the research community, EASR lists conferences that are seeking abstract submissions and calls for articles in journal special issues. You will also see EAS-related patents from national and international patent offices, clinical trial notifications, and reference book announcements. Beginning in 2023, EASR lists preprint articles. The back pages of each issue contain this useful information, which varies widely from issue to issue.
The EASR email newsletter is a brief notification that may announce the publication of a new issue, inform readers of research-related news, or announce events or opportunities. It does not contain any actual research listings. The newsletter is available to all, not just paid subscribers to the actual reports. Use this link to sign up for the email newsletter.
